What I'm watching

  • Tokyo monogatari (1953) Tokyo Story
A masterpiece by classic Japanese Director Ozu of the universal truths of family, love, growing up and away. This will pull at your heart and soul for weeks and should keep you thinking for months.
  • Yossi & Jagger (2002)
Just released in NYC after being a surprising big hit in israel - a sensitive portrayal of humanity and love in a trying and terrifiyingly harsh environment. Lines were enormous to see it and its Film Forum's biggest grosser so far to date this year
  • Zero Day (2002)
By using old home movies, supposedly hand held dv camera, school surveillance cameras scenes, actual family members as actors, and seemingly no script with lots of "direct to camera", this is a disturbing and realistic telling of a story of a school killng spree by seemingly normal kids for no clear purpose...is this the post punk world in middle america?
  • Lantana
An Australian crime mystery wrapped in a story of relationship breakdowns between an entangled group of married couples (hence the title). Interesting but not a nuanced or deep film despite some excellent actors
  • Laurel canyon
Finally got around to seeing this. Frances makes this film worthwhile. The ending satisfactorily leaves things up in the air as life truly always is....its OK but not great...
  • Mulholland Dr. (2001)
David Lynch so its strange in a very dark way
