Two months ago Imodium in a rather cool corporate gesture funded a public art project spread through 5 parks in manhattan nyc. They paid artists to paint and then install 10 porta potties. The installations were fully usable works of art, but were temporary; only available for one week.
Late one evening I decided my project was to locate and capture all ten installations on my camera. Walking from Riverside Park on the uws, I tracked them down. Trudging the empty streets to Battery Park, and back via Washington Square Park and Union Square. I captured all of them except the two in Madison Square Park. It wasnt till 4-30am that I gave up looking for those two and came home to bed. At least the unfortunate security guards at each site had something to talk about the next day - that strange guy that appeared out of the dark humid night and photographed the toilets. What were they needed for anyway....did someone expect the loos to be stolen away?
Anyway my favourite remains Imodium Man...the one I first saw at Washington Square Park. I dont know why this cool project wasnt given more publicity. Anyway the photos are in my album here for all to enjoy!!
