Monaghan Vacations is looking to shortly provide luxury cottage vacations in another achingly beautiful part of the world - the Hudson River Valley - just outside the great metropolis of New York City - an area of stunning delights in all seasons - mountains, rivers, forests and rolling fields.
A place where history was forged. A region where mighty bridges span the wide fast flowing river; where mansions and clapboard cottages nestle in the cool woods and glades that line the banks of the mighty river. An area where artists thrive along side farmers growing organic produce and producing great wines.
This area is little visited by foreign tourists to the USA's eastern seaboard. By staying only within the confines the big cities of Boston, New York and Washington, and not visiting the Hudson Valley, travelers are missing an experience they will never forget.
The story of America started along the banks of the mighty Hudson River and grew, flowing through the currents of centuries, developing the streams of American art, industry, economics, architecture, politics, education, domesticity, frontier development, conservation and personal freedom.
The American Revolution coursed across the mountaintops and waterways pivoting around the axis of the Hudson Valley. The Industrial Revolution grew from the region's tumbling streams and vales.
The aesthetic revolution of Romanticism sprang from the Valley's hilltops and gardens, the opening battles of personal and religious freedom were fought on the village greens and the revolution of ecological conservation swept down from the region's stunning forests and glens.
The Hudson River Valley has proven so pivotal in the history of America it has been declared a National Heritage Area by the US Congress. They named it the "landscape that defined America".
No matter what your interests are, from shopping in quaint villages to discovering some of the most important contemporary art in the world, to admiring the majesty of nature in the Catskills and "Gunks", you will find it here. Take a two hour boat cruise out of Newburgh, Kingston or West Point, sit back and enjoy the river breeze. Hike the Catskills and explore the many secret glens where Rip Van Winkle slept.
Wander the streets of New Paltz visiting the 17th & 18th century houses built by the Dutch settlers. Enjoy Cold Spring where Washington himself sipped from the spring.
Explore the Golden Era mansions and estates of the rich in Sleepy Hollow and Dutchess County. Visit the homes of two Presidents, Martin Van Buren in Kinderhook & FDR in Hyde Park. Or tour the homes of John Jay in Katonah, Ambassador from the Continental Congress to France and first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court or Robert R. Livingston Jr. in Clermont, one of the Committee of Five that drafted the Declaration of Independence, both of legendary status as Founding Fathers.
Visit West Point, Stony Point, Fort Montgomery and other sites to trace the fight for the continent that won us our freedom. Or just sit back and enjoy a bright day in one of hundreds of outdoor cafes.
The Hudson River Valley is one of the world's most beautiful regions. Soon we will have a luxury cottage from where you can base your exploration of this delightful region. Contact us for more information:
