The hub of Abruzzo. Most likely the way you will arrive to enjoy your luxury cottage vacation.
Bisected by the Pescara River this lively city has around 150,000 inhabitants. Pescara is the largest Abruzzese city: dynamic, active, wealthy, it is one of the main commercial and tourist centers along the Adriatic coast.
Pescara is still a major sea port - with a large modern marina, an active fishing fleet and a large ferry terminal.
Wide sandy beaches extend for over 20 uninterrupted km and makes Pescara a major tourist destination on the Adriatic Sea.
It is very popular among Italians for a summer vacation spot. The beach side restaurants are busy with families and relaxing Italians during the warm months of June through September.
Grab a "Palm" on the beach for the day and have your Perroni beers and gelatos delivered to your lounger. Snack on local seafood delicacies caught that morning by the fishing fleet based in the harbor a few miles down the beach.
Pescara has the region's principal airport (Aeroporto di Pescara, also known as Abruzzo International Airport).
There are three train stations (Pescara Centrale, Pescara Porta Nuova, Pescara San Marco), and also several bus lines. Pescara Centrale train station is the largest in Abruzzo, and one of the largest in the whole of Europe. There is a direct bus line to Roma Tiburtina (Rome) via Pescara Centrale (about a two and a half hour ride).
It is also a commercial and industrial center for the Region. Pescara's hinterland has undergone remarkable development so its urban area now incorporates lother municipalities as Montesilvano, Chieti, Francavilla, Città Sant'Angelo, and Spoltore. The entire area now has over 400,000 inhabitants one third of the whole Abruzzo population.
Pescara is famous as the birth place of Gabriele D'Annunzio, one of the main Italian poets of the 20th century.
Pescara is worth a visit for a few days. It is only 30 minutes drive from your luxury cottage in Vestea.
