So finally thanks to Honeydancer and Manchild I got to see one of my current idols in the flesh. Lining up at 4-15pm at the obscure non-descript studios on the west side, held in the green room with about 180 others for at least two and a half hours and finally we are led to our seats and wait and wait and wait.
It was the first Daily Show with Jon Stewart after afew weeks vacation and maybe they were having a hard time getting it together again (a little like Prez Bush after his shortened vacation).
It was worth the 4 hour wait. Jon was spot on with his humour and biting satire - all focused on the Gulf Coast tragedy. The audience lapped it up. Even the author guest was sharp. Yep maybe I am a certified member of the looney left, but goddam I am happy I am a part of a group that cares.
One section that was extremely funny, but over too quickly to appreciate was the alphabetical list of crisis that the Bush Admin was prepared to protect us from...we are only up to K for Katrina...The rest are gut wrenchingly funny...heres a screen shot:
The set as usual was less elaborate than expected, but a great sound system and good music to keep us entertained during the long wait; Jon was shorter than anticipated, but gave a hilarious warm up repartie; and the crew were obviously enjoying every minute of their work day and the buzz from the crowd was infectious. It was over far too quickly.
A great evening - i'll try to catch the show when I get home tonight.
